Relex Today

The laser correction of vision using the ReLEx® SmILE method does not require hospitalization.

During the procedure, anesthetic eye drops are used to completely numb the eye, and the state-of-the-art Carl Zeiss VisuMax laser places a series of pulses in the centre of the cornea with extraordinary 3D placement accuracy. These pulses form bubbles that are less than 1/100th the width of a human hair, and which outline the tissue that needs to be removed to effectively change the shape of the cornea. The laser then creates a tiny connecting tunnel through which the surgeon draws out this tissue.

The eyes to be operated will be anesthetized using eye drops only. There are no injections in the entire procedure.

The procedure takes only a few minutes and is painless.

All one needs to do is follow the doctor’s instructions and look at a focus light. The actual procedure is just a few minutes per eye and very comfortable and pain free.

During the first few hours post procedure, the eyes may water or itch and you will have blurred vision. Usually near to normal sight capacity is already restored on the day following the SMILE.

During the first few weeks there may be slight fluctuations in vision until final stabilization which is usually reached after 4 to 6 weeks.

When washing or taking a shower be careful that no water enters the operated eye and avoid rubbing the eye for the first 2-3 days.

During the first week after the procedure by the ReLEx® smile method you must not rub the operated eye nor use make-up. Cautious rubbing is possible after the first week following the procedure.
